Bethea - McNair Family & Friends

Parents of Mrs. Sarah Bethea Thomas

A little family history starting with Mrs. Charity McNair.

Charity McNair is the sister of Alfred McNair. They were both the children of Julius and Nellie McNair. Nellie arrived in Wilmington, N.C. in 1820; at age 10 on a slave ship. Nellie was sold at the Market House in Fayetteville, N.C. The date of marriage is unknown. However, Julius and Nellie McNair had nine children: Alfred, Bettie, Caroline, Evander, Jim, Murdock, Sallie, Sam, and Violet.

Alfred McNair married Mary Patterson and lived in the Alfordsville - Robeson County Community in N.C. They had the following children: Julius, Henry Simon, Duncan, Tom, Sallie, Catie, Lizzie, and Mary.

Henry Simon McNair married Mary Ida McCrae and had the following children: Frank, Henry, Ann, Tom, Patricia (Pat - which is Yvonne Thomas great grandmother; Sarah Bethea Thomas' grandmother; and Ruth Bethea's mother), Minnie, Bruce (Sallie's father who is 101 years old as of February 2009), Mary, Delois (Lois), and Cattie (celebrated her 91st birthday in Lumberton, N.C. in February of 2009). Three of their children are still alive and are in fair to good health: Bruce and Cattie in Rowland, N.C. and Lois in Hampton, Va.
